NEWS UPDATE
Though its origins began shortly after the Civil War, Memorial Day didn't actually become a federal holiday until 1971. Clearly the designation was overdue, and this Memorial Day will also mark the honoring of an overdue recognition in Frisco.
Following the city's annual Memorial Day celebration in Frisco Commons on Monday, the entry road to the park will be officially designated Cpl. Peter J. Courcy Circle in honor of a fallen Frisco soldier. Courcy was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan on Feb. 10, 2009, and the city has been looking for a way to honor his sacrifice ever since.

SPORTS UPDATE
The Liberty baseball team lost its first playoff game of the season in an 8-5 contest against Forney on May 3.
The Redhawks have made sure it hasn't happened again, winning all three series openers since, including Thursday's 6-3 win against Mansfield Legacy in the regional semifinals.
