Brown enters Hall of Fame
Felton Brown, a Plano resident and teacher at Clark High School, has been elected to the Titan Sports Hall of Fame, which represents Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa.
Brown was a four-year letterman at Westminster and was captain of the Titan track team in 1960. Almost 50 years later, many of Brown’s sprinting records at Westminster still stand.
“He is the best sprinter Westminster has ever had,” Titan coaching legend Harold Bunny said.
Brown quickly established himself in Titan track annals by winning the 100-yard and 220-yard dashes at the Tri-State Championships, which included Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio, in both his freshman and sophomore years.
In 1958, Brown ran the 100-meter race in 10.05, which was only 0.03 off the world record set by Bobby Morrow.
Brown won the Halferty Memorial Trophy in 1959 as the winner of the 100-yard dash at the first ever West Penn Conference meet. Brown was an intricate part of the Westminster track team winning district and conference titles all four years in which he competed.
In his free time, the Plano-resident still works out, plays tennis and fences regularly.
West Booster Club kick-off
The Plano West Boy's Soccer Club will hold its annual kick-off meeting in the presentation Oct. 16th at 7 p.m.
Both players and parents need to attend. JV and Varsity teams will be introduced. The meeting will serve as a forum to learn about this year's program and for Wolves’ fans to begin supporting the teams.
East tennis needs donations
Anyone looking to assist the Plano East tennis team can do so by donating used cell phones or empty laser and inkjet printer cartridges.
Deposits can be made by placing these items into the collection container at the Plano East library.
