A man walked into an Allen bank and walked out with an undisclosed amount of money Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday the Allen Police responded to a robbery at the Chase Manhattan Bank located at 908 West McDermott in Allen, according to the Allen Police Department.
“If anybody recognizes the picture they need to contact the Allen Police Department,” said Capt. Robert Flores a spokesperson for the Allen Police Department. “It is unknown at this time if he was working with an accomplice. We were notified of the robbery via a robbery alarm set off by one of the bank employees.”
Upon arriving at the scene officers were informed that the man had entered the bank holding an envelope and walked up to a teller with the envelope prominently displayed in his hand. The man then handed the teller the envelope and told the bank employee to fill it with bills in the denominations of $50 and $100. The teller complied with the man’s demands by filling the envelope with an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect fled the bank in an east bound direction, according to eye-witnesses. Authorities still aren’t sure if the man was working with an accomplice to aid him in his escape from the bank, however the bank is located close to a major highway.
“The bank is not too far from U.S. 75, a quarter of a mile or so,” Flores said. “There are other banks close. It has been a while since we have had a bank robbery in that area. It is both a state and federal violation so the individual or individuals would be prosecuted by either federal or local authorities. We will work with the FBI to compile evidence and leads.”
Witnesses did not see the man display any type of weapon while inside the bank, according to Flores. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect who had fled the area by the time the police had arrived.
Any information on the whereabouts of the bank robber can be directed to the Allen Police Department at 214-509-4200.
