Patrick Wilson, an 18-year-old Anna High School student, was charged with carrying a prohibited weapon on a school campus after an incident that prompted the school to go into lockdown mode on Wednesday afternoon.

The student, who police said had a loaded .22-caliber pistol, fled the campus on foot from a school resource deputy. He was apprehended in a housing area south of the campus.

The charge is a third-degree felony offense, said Sgt. Michael Davis of the Collin County Sheriff's Department.

After a search of the area, authorities found the pistol in a field south of the school, Davis said.

Anna ISD Superintendent Joe Wardell said the school went on lockdown at about 12:30 p.m. Parents were allowed to come onto campus at about 2:15 p.m. and sign their children out, if they wished.

Wardell said no shots were fired and no one was hurt or injured.

Anna High student Beth Sisk said that when it first happened, they heard what was going on and a girl came in the room and told them to lock the doors and not to leave. The principal then came by and told them to shut the blinds, Sisk said.

She said she then sent a text message to her mother, telling her she was scared. Her mother called her back and "she told us what was going on. I freaked out, and everybody else freaked out and they started calling their parents."

By this time parents were parked all the way up and down State Highway 5 (Powell Parkway) in front of the school. Police asked parents waiting for word from their children to wait at a nearby malt shop, where they were briefed.

Sisk also said that the student with the gun was supposed to be in her class.

"We were like, 'What would we have done if he were here,'" she said. "We were thinking how different it would be."

" I think that the officers and admin of Anna ISD handled the situation perfectly. It was resolved with no shots fired, and no injuries and the supspect was taken into custody without incident. Great Job to everyone that involved. "
