Collin County 60: Frisco company tops in growth

Published: Monday, May 14, 2007 3:24 PM CDT
The explosive growth of Collin County business was highlighted Friday during the annual Collin County 60 at the Marriott Legacy Town Center. The event honors the 60 fastest-growing businesses in Collin County.

Friday, Maverick Residential Mortgage Inc. of Frisco was announced to be the fastest-growing company in Collin County during the ceremony. The mortgage banker didn't show up in the top 60 a year ago but jetted to No. 1 in the competition, sponsored primarily by Comerica Bank.

The criteria for being named the fastest-growing business in Collin County involves a pattern of growth over three years with a strong focus placed on the last 12 months.

"This was a great surprise and a great honor for all the employees in our company," said Bob Johnson, chairman and chief executive officer of Maverick Residential Mortgage. "We normally focus solely on how we are working as a company and how our customers and treated; we don't think too much about how we are perceived in the community. But this honor tells us that we are working hard and smart."

Maverick was founded by Johnson and Barrett Owens and engages in originating, closing, funding, and selling residential mortgage loans. Johnson and Owens have a background in mortgage, insurance, and financial services.

Maverick Mortgage replaced Masergy, a network service provider headquartered in Plano, as the fastest-growing business in the county. Masergy finished fifth this year and CEO Barry Nalls said the title was an honor.

"It was great for our company and employees, proving their hard work," Nalls said. "With the amount of work we were able to do helping orthodontists it's further proof I should have become a dentist."

OraMetrix of Richardson and No. 3 was QuickCare Software Services of Frisco. Rounding out the top 10 were Masergy, last year's winner, of Plano; MobileComm Professionals Inc. of Plano; Valere Power of Richardson; Pet Butler of Frisco; Brooke Insurance and Financial Services of Wylie; Acute Kids Urgent Care of Frisco and Pappy's Pet Lodge of Richardson.

Along with Comerica Bank, sponsors of the event were Grant Thorton, CRESA, Delta Dallas, The Plexus Groupe, Inside Collin County Business, Strasburger, Optimance, LandRover, KTVT Channel 11, NeoPaper, Strong AV Productions, and Star Community Newspapers.

"Collin County and the surrounding suburbs are a hotbed of entrepreneurial spirit and success," said Angie Bick, president of Finish First Enterprises, the company that directed the presentation, "This was illustrated in the diversity and strength of the winners in the third annual Comerica Collin 60, 24 of which were new to the awards program in 2007."
