Man arrested in home sword attack
From staff reports
A Dallas man who allegedly attacked his mother and stepfather with a 24-inch sword was arrested early Wednesday.
Albert Morton, 29, was being charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and on three traffic warrants from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred after midnight at a home in the 16000 block of Seagoville Road, near the Mesquite city limits. Morton lived in the home with his mother and her husband, police say.
Velta Morton, 58, the suspect’s mother, came to the help of her husband, police say. Then, according to reports, the son grabbed the sword and began repeatedly stabbing and striking Moore in the face, chest, ankle, and forearms and severely injured him.
Velta Morton reportedly suffered wounds to her left calf, both hands and both forearms. Moore fled and was found at a nearby convenience store. Both Moore and Velta Morton were taken to Baylor Medical Center. Both were reportedly in stable condition.
Albert Morton also fled, but was arrested down the street from the home. He was treated for a cut to the hand and was taken to the jail.
A small boy in the home at the time of the incident was unharmed.
