A New York City sculptor and artist who began her career in this area will unveil a window display in Lewisville this evening.
Heather Grace has been working this week on a display that will be available for public viewing at BathBar/Spa/CandleCompany at 159 West Main Street, just west of the Wayne Ferguson Plaza in Old Town, following the Holiday at the Hall tree lighting ceremony at about 5:45 p.m.
The display will feature an A-Frame cabin in the woods and will have a Christmas theme.
Grace realized that she wanted to pursue art and sculpting as a career when she took an art course while a student at Flower Mound Marcus High School.
After graduating from Marcus in 1990, she attended the University of North Texas (UNT) where she earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in sculpture. She operated an art gallery in Denton while in college and for a few years after. In 2000, she moved the gallery to New York.
In New York, she works at a design center where she designs window displays for stores, and also creates props and sets for television productions, including MTV.
She has done window displays for Barneys Department Stores, on Madison Avenue in New York City, and also in Los Angeles.
While attending UNT, she was a roommate with Amanda (Mandi) Ferguson of Lewisville.
“Heather’s creativity has always amazed me,” Ferguson said. “She is never afraid to experiment with her imagination. Her eclectic nature allowed her to fit in well in New York City, where she has been very successful.”
Ferguson’s business, nest, floral studio, is sponsoring Grace’s window display at BathBar/Spa/CandleCompany.
“After the parade, come by and see a real New York style window unveiling here in Old Town,” Ferguson said. “A renowned window designer and native Texan will be displaying her work.”
Fergusons said she hopes this window display will be the first of several for Old Town in coming years, with other businesses sponsoring window displays.
