MITCHELL
Virginia (Brown) Mitchell was born November 17, 1912 near Dearborn, Missouri, and died March 3, 2008 in Mesquite, Texas.
She grew up in Lees Summit, Missouri, and graduated from Lees Summit High School in 1930. She excelled in basketball and followed the Lees Summit girl's basketball team with her husband, Harold Clark, who were classmates from the sixth grade.
She and Clark were married in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1934. Virginia was a member of the Kansas City Boosters girl's baseball team that competed against men's teams.
As an avowed sports fan, Virginia really enjoyed watching and listening to football, baseball, and basketball (sometimes at the same time), especially the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.
She was a very unique and special person, and she said, "No one that ever meets me forgets me," and truer words were never spoken.
She is survived by her daughter, Luann Nelson of Mesquite, Texas, and son, Gary C. Mitchell of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; six grandchildren, Terri Watkins of Blue Ridge, Texas, Mike Nelson of Houston, Texas, Christine Nelson of McKinney, Texas, Mitch Nelson of Garland, Texas, Matt Nelson of Yuba City, California, and Jenna Holland of Rowlett, Texas; along with three great-granddaughters and 12 great-grandsons.
Visitation was Sunday, March 9, 2008 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel.
Funeral services were Monday, March 10, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel with burial afterward at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
