Pharmacy thief hits again
By Chris Roark, Staff Writer
The search for a pharmacy thief continues after a Flower Mound pharmacy became the latest in a string of local targets Thursday.
According to a report released by the Flower Mound Police Department, officers arrived at Walgreens, located at 1101 Cross Timbers Road in Flower Mound at 7:34 p.m. on a robbery call. Despite officers arriving at the scene less than one minute after being dispatched, the suspect had left.
Lt. Wess Griffin said the suspect got away with several types of narcotics, all of them controlled substances, but it isn’t known yet how much he escaped with. Griffin said nobody was injured in the incident.
Griffin said police are very confident that the suspect in this incident is the same as the one who has hit three other pharmacies in Flower Mound, Highland Village and Lewisville since May.
“There is almost an identical vehicle description,” Griffin said. “Also, the baseball cap that was worn by the suspect in the Highland Village robbery matches the one that was worn at (Flower Mound’s) robbery. And, the jacket that was worn by him in the Lewisville robbery was the same as the one that was worn in ours. It’s pretty obvious that it’s the same guy.”
On May 12, Flower Mound Pharmacy, located at 1001 Cross Timbers Road, was robbed. The suspect was described as a white male in his mid-20s. He was described as being approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds. Police said he was described as having short brown hair with a clean-shaven round face and was wearing wired-framed rectangular glasses. He was wearing a camouflage baseball hat and jacket, as well as red and white cloth gloves and grayish/brown pants.
The report stated that he handed an employee behind the pharmacy counter a note that stated he had a gun and for the employee not to call police and demanded a variety of narcotics. The suspect partially revealed a handgun.
On May 21, the Walgreens located at 1103 West FM 3040 in Lewisville, was robbed. A store video and witnesses indicated a similar suspect, vehicle and note.
The Walgreens, located on 2360 Justin Road in Highland Village, was robbed on June 29, and a store video and witnesses indicated a similar physical description and note.
“At first, the span between the robberies was between 40 and 80 days,” Griffin said. “But, now there are like 14 days in between them, so he’s really ramping up. There is a pattern in this type of offense.”
Similar robberies occurred earlier in the spring in Coppell and Carrollton, but Griffin said there is no evidence to show that those are connected to the recent ones in Flower Mound, Highland Village and Lewisville.
