Arts directors meet, set plan for hiring new head
By Heather Smith, Staff writer
The board of directors for the Arts of Collin County met Thursday afternoon to discuss the progress on the project, dating back to 2002, to build an art center for county residents.
The meeting included an update on the search for an executive director. The candidate pool was narrowed from 60 applicants to 20 by the Allen human resources department. From there the board of directors decided on six candidates for interviews. Following Labor Day weekend the board will proceed with phone interviews that will eliminate at least three of the potential candidates. The last step will be to do in-person interviews with the remaining candidates before naming a new executive director.
A new marketing strategy and communications plan was presented by Levenson & Brinker, the company hired to catapult the project forward. Part of their plan is to continue to involve the citizens of McKinney by going directly to them for donations instead of focusing on official city donations.
Expanding on the desire to involve the citizens of McKinney, this weekend the board of directors will attend the Arts on the Lawn event held in McKinney. They will be there with Powerpoint slides containing information about the art center to further inform McKinney residents about the park. This is just one of the events the board of directors plans on being a part of in order to raise awareness of the project.

" Brilliant new marketing strategy. They're at least $20MM short and the number is probably very much higher. So their idea is to go to picnics to collect small donations from McKinney citizens. Even if they can talk people into a $100 contribution, which is highly unlikely, they''ll need at least 250,000 to contribute. Those better be expensive bricks they're planning to sell. My guess it that they're going to find that McKinney citizens are smart enough not to give money to something that their own council doesn't support and something that may never happen when there are much more worthy causes to give to. " When is the Board of the Arts of Collin County Commission goiing to release the amount of the "GUARANTEED PRICE" OR
the true projjected costs of this ARTS
Hall? The longer they waid to release this informatiion, it is burning tax dollars
for staff to do nothing. What is there for them to possibly advertise that is new?
After six years of the same people, same song & dance, time to cut loose &
admitt that we just dont need this hall anymore. Other cities have taken on their own project in their districts, & also tired of waiting for this Board to raise money that simply is not coming forward.
Time to cut bait, & run.... "

not recognize them, not in their meeting,
not in the minutes, and the only time they do care, it is about their money. Left out of this story is the Board is even considering selling "BRICKS" to raise a
few dollars. From School Children anyone, but they will not recognize citizens attending. This Board is their own worst enemy. They are the "PUBLIC RELATIONS PROBELM" that even the Levenson & Brinker Firm surely will not be able to correct! This Board intends to continue chasing the same group of officials & corporate heads rather than truly "including" citizens
THAT IS A PUBLIC RELATIONS NIGHTMARE!! "
