Plano: Student arrested at Jasper High School
By Stephanie Flemmons, Staff Writer
Plano police officers arrested two Jasper High School students after homemade fireworks were found inside their school lockers Tuesday.
Plano ISD staff conducted a routine administrative search and discovered fireworks in a ninth grader’s locker.
“The student was interviewed and advised that he and a second male juvenile had been going off-campus after hours to use these homemade fireworks,” said Rick McDonald, Plano Police public information officer.
The second male juvenile was identified and was also found to be in possession of fireworks. He has been charged with possession of fireworks.
Plano ISD sent a letter home Tuesday advising parents of the incident.
The letter, written by principal Jeff Gasaway, said the devices were found at approximately 1 p.m.
“The safety and security of our students and staff members are always are top priorities,” Gasaway wrote. “At no time during the course of this situation were Jasper students or staff members in danger. The police took immediate action and are continuing to investigate this matter.
“Please be assured that our team is working diligently to ensure that Jasper is always a safe place for our students and staff.”
