Plano ISD Education Foundation Launches Community Honor Roll Campaign

Published: Saturday, October 11, 2008 8:13 PM CDT
“I Love Plano ISD” yard signs will be seen at homes and businesses throughout the district as part of the Community Honor Roll Campaign sponsored by the Plano ISD Education Foundation.

This campaign will benefit the Plano ISD by allowing the district to incorporate priority programs for which tax dollars are not available. Enrichment programs such as additional mathematics and technology instruction, science camps for all fifth grade students, educator grants, programs to recruit, retain and recognize outstanding teachers, student scholarships and many others will be sustained by these funds.

The campaign focuses on district needs for which tax dollars are not available and emphasizes that funds raised by the Education Foundation will stay within the district and not be subject to current state school finance laws, such as the Robin Hood recapture plan.

The PISD currently sends about 30 percent of its local tax revenues to the State to fund other communities. The PISD Education Foundation provides funding for priority needs such as programs to fill achievement gaps, adult and child literacy programs and to ensure all students are college ready. The Foundation raised more than $1.1 million last year through community and business support, all of which stayed within the district.

“The Plano ISD is the cornerstone of the community and continues to bring people and businesses to Plano,” said Beth Webb, chair of development for the Education Foundation. It is in all our interest to ensure it is a success; we hope the community will show their full support.”

As part of the campaign, which began in mid-September, the Education Foundation hopes to create community awareness by providing yard signs for all donors over $100. The yard sign features this year’s theme “I Love Plano ISD.”

The Foundation is mailing 90,000 brochures to all Plano residents and business owners to garner their support.

The PISD Education Foundation is a non-profit organization raising private dollars to help Plano schools remain among the best in the nation. To learn more about the PISD Education Foundation or to donate, call: 469-752-8272 or visit: foundation.pisd.edu.
