Plano: Grand jury clears officer
By Stephanie Flemmons, Staff Writer
The Plano police patrol sergeant who fatally shot a man in October was cleared by a Collin County grand jury of any potential charges.
The 22-year veteran was placed on administrative leave with pay, which is consistent with departmental procedure to conduct an investigation of the shooting.
Rick McDonald, Plano police spokesman, said the sergeant was cleared by the internal investigation and is back on duty working patrol.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at 7:45 a.m. Oct. 9 in the 2500 block of Millstream.
When officers arrived they discovered the male, later identified as Rodney Lynn Jensen, 55, with a cut to the neck. He continued displaying the knife and confronted the officers.
"The officer fired at the male, due to the threat posed," McDonald said.
Jensen's wife called 9-1-1 and told dispatch she was in fear of her life.
"He is killing me," she told dispatch. "He hit me in the head multiple times. I have blood all over me."
Jensen's wife locked herself in the upstairs bathroom while talking to the Plano police dispatcher.
When paramedics arrived, she was transported to a local hospital for the injuries sustained.
