Six fire departments fight Rocky Point grass, house fire
By Penny Rathbun, Staff writer
A grass fire quickly became a structure fire as six fire departments fought a blaze on New Year’s Eve.
A backyard grass fire at a house at Oak Street and Rocky Point Street set the house ablaze and spread to two other backyards before the fire was brought under control. Aubrey, Oak Point, Pilot Point, Sanger, The Colony, and Little Elm Fire Departments helped put out the fire.
Little Elm Fire Chief Joe Florentino said the unoccupied house was half destroyed while leaving the front part of the house standing. He also said there were no injuries.
“It did what it was supposed to do when it’s under pressure. The relief valve went off, but we had to cool that down,” said Florentino.
He said the biggest problem was water because there are no fire hydrants in Rocky Point. All the departments had to run a water shuttle to fight the fire. Florentino said it took them about 45 minutes to get the blaze under control.
Denton County Assistant Chief of Emergency Services Roland Asebedo said the Fire Marshal’s office had completed its investigation of the fire and the complete report was not yet available.
