Father Daughter dance scheduled for Feb. 13


The Vision Committee and Little Elm Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring a father/daughter dance to be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lakeside Junior High. Advance tickets are $5 at Little Elm Chiropractic and PointBank. Tickets are $7 at the door. The proceeds will fund Summer Rhythms and provide a dual credit scholarship to the Little Elm Awards Foundation.

Memorial fund for Ryan Cook at Independent Bank

Those who wish to help the Ryan Cook family may make donations to a memorial fund at any Independent Bank location. For information call the Little Elm branch at 972-294-0050.

Donations to crash victim’s family can be made at Sterling Bank in Little Elm

An account has been set up at Sterling Bank at 2785 East Eldorado Parkway for the benefit of the family of Brandy Norton. Norton lost her life in a traffic accident in Little Elm on Dec. 13. Checks may be made out to the Brandy Norton Memorial Fund. Also, Johnny Joe’s and Lakeview Grocery are gathering gifts and donations for the children of Brandy Norton She had a teenage boy and an 11-year-old girl.

New Life Tabernacle to hold gospel sing

Everyone is invited to New Life Tabernacle at 311 Eldorado Parkway for gospel singing at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 24. The evening features Heart and Strings.

Neighborhood Watch meeting to be held Jan. 27

A meeting for all those interested in forming a Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Button Memorial United Methodist Church at 101 West Eldorado Parkway across from the Little Elm Central Fire Station. All are invited.

Return to sobriety

The Little Elm chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and at 6:30 p.m. Sundays at Living Word Baptist Church. The church is at 2315 W FM 720.

Get ready for annual trivia night

The annual Friends of the Little Elm Library TRIVIA night is scheduled for Jan. 27 at Lakeside Junior High School. The event will get under way at 6 p.m. with barbeque, pizza, candy, and drinks. TRIVIA team members must be seated by 6:45. Only registered team members may occupy seats at their team table after 6:45 p.m. For information about the event or to register a team contact the library at 214-975-0430. The event has traditionally been held on the first Thursday in February, but scheduling conflicts make it necessary to have trivia on a Tuesday in January this year.

Cancer support group to start

Whether you are a caregiver or a cancer survivor, you are invited to attend the Little Elm Cancer Care Support Group’s first cancer support group meeting at 3 p.m., Jan. 31 at Button Memorial United Methodist Church, 101 W. Eldorado Parkway in Little Elm. It is an organizational meeting and not limited to Little Elm residents. All people affected by cancer are welcome to attend. Each cancer survivor or caregiver will receive a Lance Armstrong journal for recording his or her cancer journey at this meeting. Two Little Elm firefighters to play in hockey game to benefit injured Dallas police officer

Little Elm Fire Marshal Brian Roach and EMS Coordinator Todd Jamison play on the DFW Titans hockey team. On Feb. 8 after the Stars vs. Predators game at 5 p.m. the DFW Titans will play the Dallas PD team at the American Airlines Center. $10 from each ticket will benefit the family of injured Dallas police officer Lt. Carlton Marshall.

Little Elm Fire Department accepting applications for Citizens Fire Academy

Applications are being accepted for Little Elm Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy. This year's academy will begin in February 2009, with graduation scheduled for late April. Over the past three years, more than 30 Little Elm residents have completed the academy.

The Citizens Fire Academy will meet once each week on Monday evenings for three hours and will last 10 weeks. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in several field days, held on Saturdays, where they will receive some hands-on training and demonstrations. Applications for the academy are available at Little Elm Fire Department Administrative Offices, located at 101 Hardwick Lane. The application can be mailed, faxed or returned by hand to fire officials. Instructions are included in the application package. There is no cost for the program. Applications will be accepted from now until January 30, 2009, and applicants will be notified if they are accepted, pending background investigation, in early February. " i was interested in the fire accademy that is being offered, but wasn't sure about who's eligible for the applications. i graduated in 2002 and wasn't for sure if i could have this once in a life time opportunity to try this field of education like i've always wondered about. "
