Softball: Hoagland, Rother help Flower Mound past Coppell
BY RICKY MOORE, Staff Writer
As she has so many times in her career, Flower Mound senior Taylor Hoagland delivered the decisive blow Tuesday that helped the Lady Jaguars past Coppell, 1-0, in a District 6-5A softball game at Coppell.
Hoagland’s one-out bases-loaded sacrifice fly to center field scored freshman Katie St. Pierre with the lone run of the game. St. Pierre, making her first varsity appearance started the inning with a pinch-hit single. Flower Mound’s next two hitters reached base to load things for Hoagland.
The win kept Flower Mound (17-6, 4-1) within a game of 6-5A leading Marcus at the midway point of the district schedule. The victory also came on the heels of the Lady Jaguars’ 7-3 loss Friday to Marcus.
Flower Mound starting pitcher Ashley Rother went the distance for the win. Rother tossed a one-hitter and struck out six Cowgirls (15-6, 2-3).
“She was hitting her spots all night,” Larriba said. “She did a really good job all night.”
The Lady Jaguars open the second-half of district play hosting Hebron.
