RECREATION: The Colony Bass Club making its mark in the community

Published: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 7:27 PM CDT
Though not many people in The Colony have heard of them, The Colony Bass Club is attempting to become involved in The Colony through charitable means.

May 14, Gabriel Romo, the Program Director for The Colony Bass Club, presented a plan for the adoption of the Stewart’s Creek Park to The Colony Community Development Corporation.

The CDC accepted The Colony Bass Club proposal to adopt Stewart’s Creek Park. Romo said the members of The Colony Bass Club were excited about having the opportunity to give back to their local community and help take care of the park and the boat ramp.

The Club has numerous plans that they want to implement in maintaining the park. The first item was to have a park cleanup day. The cleanup day was May 30 and nine club members, five children of the club members, and two friends of the park came out to help.

Numerous bags of trash were picked up and eight tires that had broken loose from Pier 21 were removed.

With summer here, many families will be taking advantage of the warm summer days to use the park and enjoy one of the great parts of The Colony.

June 28, the club is planning to paint the hand rails at the boat ramp.

The Colony Shoreline Trail opening

Following the adoption of Stewart Creek Park by The Colony Bass Club, the club wanted to show its support for the Opening Ceremony of The Colony Shoreline Trail June 6.

Members of the Colony Bass Club fielded questions in their booth at the trail entrance on the requirements to join the bass club.

Club Vice President Milton Kornegay said that boat owners and non boat owners were welcomed in the club. The club holds tournaments on area lakes each month. Club President Lynn Schmidt told visitors to the booth that the club would sponsor a kid fish in September for all children.

If you would like to be a part of a bass club that is having fun and giving back to the community, The Colony Bass Club meets at Stan’s Tap House on the first Wednesday of each month. Information can also be found at www.thecolonybassclub.org.
