MISD superintendent among award nominees

Mesquite ISD Superintendent Dr. Linda Henrie is among 16 public school administrators to be nominated for the annual Superintendent of the Year award, sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards. Since 1984, the program has recognized exemplary superintendents for excellence and achievement in educational leadership.
Regional superintendents of the year are:Oscar Rodriguez, Jr., Mission CISD; Charley McMath, London ISD; Michael Lanier, Rice CISD; Mark Henry, Galena Park ISD; Clay Webb, New Waverly ISD; James Wilcox, Longview ISD; Linda Henrie, Mesquite ISD; Ray Braswell, Denton ISD; Rose Cameron, Copperas Cove ISD; Jesús Chávez, Round Rock ISD; Guy Nelson, Highland ISD; Robert Gibson, Miles ISD; Bill Mayfield, Highland Park ISD; Larry McClenny, Patton Springs ISD; Paul Vranish, Tornillo ISD; and Thomas Harvey, Jr., La Vernia ISD.
Candidates are chosen for their strong leadership skills, dedication to improving educational quality, ability to build effective employee relations, student performance, and commitment to public involvement in education.
The state committee will interview regional winners in August in Austin and select five state finalists. The Superintendent of the Year will be announced Oct. 3 at the TASA/TASB Convention in Houston.
TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local public school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 4.7 million students.
