Body of drowned man recovered from lake; search suspended for missing child
By DAN EAKIN, Staff Writer
The body of Darrell Williams, a 35-year-old Lewisville man who drowned about 6:30 p.m. June 17, was recovered Saturday morning in Lewisville Lake.
Division Chief Steve Carter, of the Lewisville Fire Department, said a boater discovered the body floating in the water about 8:45 a.m., in the area which the fire department’s dive team had been searching since Wednesday evening. He said body apparently had surfaced overnight.
Williams and another man were swimming off of a boat in deep water Wednesday evening. Williams had, called for help, but was unable to get to a life preserver that the other man had thrown to him.
The incident occurred only hours after the Lewisville Fire Department had suspended the search for the body of 9-month-old Daisja Weaver, which Dallas police believe was dropped into Lewisville Lake by her father, Alandus Weaver, June 9. The baby’s parents had told police at first that the baby had been kidnapped.
Later, the baby’s mother said she had died in their apartment and that the baby’s father had dropped the body, attached to a sand bag, into the lake.
Carter said the baby’s body still had not been recovered Saturday.
