Weekend events beginning Friday, July 17

What Makes Texans Unique? Dr. Light Cummins, Austin College History professor who was recently named Texas State Historian, speaks at 7 p.m. at The Pantry Restaurant, 214 E. Louisiana. 972-542-9457.

‘Hartburn Hotel’ by the McKinney Repertory Theatre, Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2 p.m. Bring a can of food to help the Community Food Pantry of McKinney, and get a free bag of popcorn for the show (limit 3). At MPAC, 214-544-4630.

Music Under the Stars: Guitarist Newt Pittman performs at Wales Manor Winery & Vineyard; 7-10:30 p.m. 972-542-0417.
