Mesquite mayor pro tem resigns to run for state legislature
By Kenny Green, Staff Writer
Mesquite Mayor Pro Tem Greg Noschese resigned from his seat on the city council on Monday as he announced intentions to run for the Republican nomination for Texas House District 101.
Noschese said that for the past several months he has been reflecting and praying about whether or not to seek the nomination.
“The decision was not easy an easy one, especially because the city charter requires me to step down from this position on council to seek the nomination,” Noschese said.
“Right when I made the speech a few minutes ago to council is when I made the decision to seek the nomination,” Noschese said.
Noschese, who works as an attorney, hopes to win the house seat so that he can better serve the local community which includes Mesquite, Balch Springs and Sunnyvale. Noschese has served on various boards and committees over the last several years, including being a founding member and past president of the Mesquite Quality of Life Corporation, which he served on from Aug. 1999 to Feb. 2008, and chairman of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce in 2005.
“My service on the council and various local committees along with my legal background will give me the ability to be of service to the citizens of Mesquite, Balch Springs, and Sunnyvale,” Noschese said. “Having served at this level I have a feel for things that the community needs.”
House District 101 is represented by Democrat Robert Miklos, who defeated former Mesquite mayor Mike Anderson in November of last year.

" Greg has donated to Democrat candidates so that will hurt him with GOP voters.
And, he led the effort to bring beer stores to Mesquite and that will hurt him with people who are worried about safe neighborhoods -- which is pretty much everyone in Mesquite.
There has to be a better Republican candidate for Texas House than this guy. "

This should be an interesting race, but he's got a tough fight ahead of him - there is no doubt he will face at least one more challenger in his own Primary. "
