Michael Rainwater of Frisco set up his portable chair at 7 a.m. Saturday to be first in line for the grand opening of Apple’s newest store at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco.
“I’m here for the event and to get the new Snow Leopard OS,” Rainwater said.
“I’ve always heard these openings were grand events,” Everly said. “I wanted to be a part of it and buy my first iPhone with my birthday coming up.”
Olivia Anderson, 16, of Frisco, and her dad, Mark Anderson, Allen, took places three and four.
“It’s a good reason to hang out with my dad,” Olivia said. “It’s really cool.”
Mark Anderson said he’s a long time Apple enthusiast.
“I have Apple TV, iPod, iPhone,” Anderson said. “It’s great to be a part of all this.”
Others quickly took their places in line, snaking around the stanchions set up in the mall concourse. The crowd grew by leaps and bounds before the scheduled 10 a.m. opening.
“Did you see that line?” Frisco Mayor Maher Maso asked. “It went all the way out the door!”
And by door, he meant the front door past Barnes and Noble. There was a total of three groups of stanchions to help the crowd organize themselves. After all, the early word was there was free Apple stuff to be had.
“We’re giving away a thousand T-shirts,” store manager Gene Heggan said. “Frisco has really turned out for us.”
