Volleyball: Marcus gets monkey off back
BY JUSTIN THOMAS, Staff writer
On Friday, Marcus’ volleyball team did what coach Christie Liles had been asking of them during the past two weeks. They cut out their own mistakes.
As a result, the Lady Marauders got back in the win column, defeating Plano West, 22-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-23.
Marcus had previously lost against West on Aug. 22 in the Allen Tournament, 25-12, 18-25, 25-21.
Each of Marcus’ previous four matches before the West match had gone five games with the Lady Marauders winning two of them.
But Friday, there was no need for a fifth and decisive game.
“Plano West really serves the ball well,” Liles said. “But we did a much better job with our serve receive and passing. After the first game, we really got everything under control.
Liles said Bailey Bunting continues to play very well, while the Lady Marauders also received solid performances from Lauren Douglass, Mary Koehler and Haley Neisler.
Marcus continues non-district play with a “big” week coming up. The Lady Marauders have matches at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Allen at Marcus and at 7 p.m. Friday at Plano.
“The girls were all on the same page tonight,” Liles said. “I’m excited. Hopefully we are starting to turn the corner at the right time.”
