Marcus tops Lewisville, Flower Mound falls
BY JUSTIN THOMAS Staff writer
The District 6-5A volleyball season kicked off Friday night on a positive note for Marcus, which won its opener against Lewisville, 25-22, 25-9, 25-18.
Marcus was led by Mary Koehler, who had team highs in both kills (10) and digs (16). Other key contributors for the Lady Marauders were Haley Neisler, who had three blocks, and Mallory Sando, who chipped in with 14 assists and three aces.
Flower Mound was not as fortunate, as they lost their opener against Hebron, 25-22, 25-16, 12-25, 26-24.
Erin Gonzales led the team with 15 assists, with Rachael Foreman on her heels with 14.
Flower Mound’s top players in digs were Theesfeld (26), Brittney Van Arsdale (20) and Annie Aspenson (10).
“We played lights out in the third game and could have won the fourth,” said Marci Brinkman, Flower Mound coach. “But we gave up a long rally and made some mental errors. We played well, but Hebron has some great middles and they made it tough for our blocking.”
