Non-profit to host world renowned magician
By Stephanie Flemmons, sflemmons@acnpapers.com
Despite traditional highly expensive galas hosted each year by many non-profits, Crossroads Family Services discovered a way to host an enjoyable event without participants emptying their pockets.
Departing from that tradition Crossroads will host a magic show performed by International Magician of the Year Rob Lake.
“People will be impressed with the quality of the show,” said Justin Nichols, “It’s not just pulling a rabbit out of a hat. He has toured Japan, Disney and Vegas.”
“We work to get kids and teens back on track,” he said. “We have a wide-range of people we help.”
Bob Fine, Crossroads’ executive director, said donors are becoming harder and harder to come by and believes an affordable event will assist Crossroads meet the county’s demand.
“Many families are experiencing the same economic crunch as non-profits, and we made the decision not to turn away from the families we serve, but to host a quality fundraiser that everyone can attend; not just those with deep pockets,” he said. “”Families don’t need a silent auction. They need quality time with each other.”
Lake agreed to the special performance for children and families just in time for the Halloween holiday. He’s traveled across the globe wowing audiences with illusions and fantastic spectaculars.”
Lake won the 2008 Magician of the Year award, which is bestowed upon Earth’s finest illusion artists.
“I’m looking forward to being in North Texas on October 30th,” he said. “The show is for a good cause and will be one the audience won’t forget.”
The Crossroads-sponsored event, “A Night of Illusions,” will take place at 8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Drive in Richardson. Tickets range from $20 to $30 and can be purchased online at www.eisemanncenter.com/tickets or by calling 972-744-4650.
