The Rowlett offense had been waiting to break out for weeks. And after the team accounted for only 19 points combined in the first three district games, there was no time for a coming-out party like Friday night.

The Eagles enjoyed their best game of the season, as the offense finally got untracked and the defense continued its dominant play in a 44-7 victory over South Garland at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

Despite its struggles, Rowlett improved to 2-6 on the season, but more importantly is now 1-3 in 10-5A. South Garland slipped to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in district play.

The Eagles have struggled all season on offense, trying to work on new players. The one consistent has been Treyvon Green and he came through in a big way on Friday. Green rushed for 116 yards and four touchdowns to key the win.

The Rowlett defense, which has given the team a chance to win in every district games, did the job once again, allowing only 229 yards and the single score that did not come until the fourth quarter.

The Eagles had the game decided in the first half when they raced to a 30-0 lead.

Green got things going in the first quarter with a 26-yard scoring run and added a short touchdown early in the second to make it 14-0.

Rowlett’s defense, which forced four turnovers in the game, scored points of its own when it registered a sack in the end zone for a safety. Green tacked on his third touchdown run of the first half and Grant Bothun tossed a 14-yard scoring strike to Joshua Powell to make it 30-0 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Green put the game out of reach with a 9-yard touchdown run that made it 37-0.

South Garland finally got on the scoreboard later in the quarter before Ali Vertcoli tacked on one last touchdown run for the Eagles to provide the final margin.

Rowlett played turnover-free ball on offense and got a solid performance from Bothun at quarterback. Bothun averaged seven yards per carry and was 8-of-14 for 88 yards and a touchdown through the air.
