BY JUSTIN THOMAS, JThomas@acnpapers.com
Marcus’ volleyball team has reached the Class 5A Region I championship match for the first time in school history following a 25-23, 20-25, 25-16, 25-19 win Friday against Amarillo Tascoca in a game played at Kimbrell Arena in Abilene.
The Lady Marauders will face Amarillo at 1 p.m. today for the right to advance to the state tournament.
Amarillo advanced after sweeping Hebron, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21.
Haley Neisler led the Lady Marauders attack, notching 14 kills and 10 block kills. It was the second consecutive match Neisler has totaled double figures in kills and block kills.
Lauren Douglass added 12 kills, while Mary Koehler had a team-high 43 digs and Mallori Sando led with 26 assists.
Liles added Sarah Hula, Koehler and Katie Neisler served well, including an eight point run with Katie serving in the fourth and final game.
Now the Lady Marauders will face Amarillo, the three-time defending state champions.
“I think we match up pretty well against them,” Liles said. “They have great ball control and passing and are very consistent with where they hit the ball. But we also have good ball control and are strong defensively and with the block.”
