Donahew: I just want my name cleared

Published: Saturday, November 21, 2009 12:50 AM CST
Jason Scott Donahew, a recent suspect in a string of McKinney robberies, wants to clear the air or more specifically, his name.

"I just want my name cleared," Donahew said. "I don't know how else to put it."

McKinney police released and dropped three robbery felonies filed against Donahew Wednesday in connection with a string of robberies that include a bank branch in a Kroger grocery store on W. University Avenue, a Valero gas station on N. Central Expressway and a Golden Corral restaurant on S. Central Expressway.

Police officers arrested Donahew last Sunday at the home of a friend's house on S. Kentucky Street. Donahew said he was arrested "because I fit the description."

Witnesses from both robberies described the suspect as a white male, approximately 21 to 28 years of age with a height approximately 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall with dark brown hair and eyes and a scar on the left side of his neck. A police sketch artist compiled witnesses statements to create a composite drawing of the suspect, McKinney police Lt. Scott Brewer said.

Donahew spent three days in the Collin County Detention Center on a $450,000 bond on two felony counts of aggravated robbery and a single felony count of robbery. Lt. John Norton of the Collin County Sheriff's Office said McKinney dropped the charges and the jail released Donahew at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Donahew had a hard time describing his time behind bars.

"I can't even put it into words to be honest with you," Donahew said. "I've seen it [happen] on TV but to put it into real life and my perspective, I can't tell you what it was like at this point. It was pretty damaging."

Donahew said police released him because they have arrested another suspect connected to the robberies, but McKinney police officials have not confirmed that arrest as of Friday.

Brewer also said before Donahew's arrest that anyone with any information on the robberies or the description should contact McKinney police Detective Paul Hardin at 972-547-2742.
