Third fatality as result of U.S. 380 accident
By Sgt. Adam Henderson, Special Contributor
Patricia Wilbourn, the 66-year-old driver of a vehicle that lost control on U.S. Highway 380 Thursday afternoon and collided with two other vehicles, was pronounced dead Friday morning as a result of injuries she sustained in the traffic collision.
Also killed in the accident were Wilbourn’s passengers, 62-year-old Richard Wilbourn of Cedar Hill, and 92-year-old Catherine Nelson of Kemp.
The three-vehicle crash at 4:35 p.m. Thursday closed a section of U.S. Highway 380 between Dallas North Tollway and Preston Road. The highway was reopened late Thursday night as the Frisco Police Department concluded its on-site investigation.
As a correction to an earlier press release, no other persons involved in the collision were transported to local hospitals. Additionally, the vehicle that lost control was traveling westbound on US-380 and not eastbound, as originally reported.
Weather and icy roadway conditions have been identified as contributing factors in the collision. The Frisco Police Department is encouraging those who have to travel to do so with caution, as weather conditions have made some roadways slippery.
“Traffic fatalities are always tragic events,” noted Chief Todd Renshaw, “but even more sad this time of year.”
