WEB EXCLUSIVE: West wins low-scoring bash with Boyd
BY Kevin Hageland, Staff Writer
Friday night’s boys basketball game between Plano West and McKinney Boyd may have served as the definition of a lose-lose scenario.
There were the Broncos, who actually lost the game, and the Wolves, who felt like they lost despite grabbing a 29-23 victory.
“I guess McKinney Boyd didn’t think they could compete with us, so they just stood at half court with the basketball,” said Anthony Morgan, West head coach. “They even did that in the first half when they were down 12 points.”
“I guess that’s what their coach thinks is basketball,” Walker said. “Yeah, that’ll win you a state championship.”
Boyd, which was led by a team-high nine points from Dwayne Brooks, outdid its game total up to that point by scoring 13 in the final frame. But that wasn’t enough to counter the Wolves, who were led by Texas football-commit Jackson Jeffcoat. The West senior had 15 points in the 29-23 victory.
Only 10 players total scored in the game.
“They just stood there most of the night and we let them,” Morgan said. “That doesn’t help us prepare for the rest of the season.”
The rest of the season for both teams continues Tuesday as Boyd, which has yet to defeat a Class 5A team this season, travels to Allen for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off and West hosts Plano Senior at the same time.
