Top recruit Frisbie chooses top soccer school

By Andrew Snyder, Staff Writer
Prized soccer recruit and McKinney High senior Amanda Frisbie, ranked No. 45 on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s 2010 Top 100 national club soccer list, signed with the University of Portland Wednesday, one of the top schools for the sport in the U.S.
She said that the coaches and players at Portland are the type of people she wants to surround herself with, and that the program will make her a better player and person. Frisbie was originally also considering attending the University of West Virginia, a much larger school, but when Portland got in contact her father, Mark, said to give them a chance. Ultimately, Frisbie gave them more than that with her commitment.
“They have great traditions and a number of fans around the country,” Frisbie said. “They’re a great program, one of the great programs in the country. They’re a lot different than other schools. They only have a population of 3,000. A lot of people wouldn’t consider a school like that. They go with the big football schools, but they don’t have football at Portland. Womens soccer is the football there.”
Frisbie has been playing soccer since she was 4-years-old. She said that it took a lot of hard work and sacrifice to get to signing day, as well as the support of a great family and coaches. Her father said it was a culmination of 14 years of work and a really proud moment for him personally.
