Around Frisco: Chamber hosts candidates Thursday

The Frisco Chamber of Commerce invites the public and chamber members to the March 2010 Candidate Forum 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, 6843 Main Street, Frisco. Business owners and the voters will have direct access to their representatives at a unique opportunity.
The setting is informal and no set speeches will be given. Instead, attendees will determine what questions they want to ask, if they want to ask, or if they just want to listen to what others have to say.
Trick-A-Trout Saturday
Trick-A-Trout Kid Fish happens Saturday. The Frisco Parks & Recreation Department is releasing more than 2,800 Rainbow Trout into the pond at Frisco Commons Park, 8000 McKinney Road.

Military notes
Navy Seaman Recruit Kyler J. Wincek, son of Paula A. Wincek of Frisco, Texas and Mark A. Wincek of East Jordan, Mich., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Wincek is a 2006 graduate of Centennial High School.
College Honors
Jessie Forrest, Frisco, is named to the Dean's list at Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, for the 2009 Fall term.
Shawnee celebrates 10th
Shawnee Trail Elementary holds its 10th Anniversary Celebration 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 18 at the campus. The evening includes a short presentation followed by games, popcorn, face painting and more. Students must be accompanied by an adult.
ACC fills seat
Business woman Sandra Yancey, Plano, has been appointed as an At Large Member of the Arts of Collin County Commission, filling the board of seven members. She joins Frisco’s Nick Barretta and Jim Minyard, Bobby Baggett and Dr. Betty Muns; and Charles Nies and Craig Sundell, Allen. For more information about the Arts of Collin County, visit

Foreclosure prevention
Congressman Sam Johnson (3rd Dist.-Texas), in conjunction with the DFW
Home Ownership Preservation Enterprise, will host a FREE foreclosure
prevention workshop 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 27 at Texas AgriLife Urban Solutions Center, Texas A&M Extension Center, 17360 Coit Road, Dallas.
