Boot Camp premiers at Village at Allen
With warmer weather just around the corner, The Village at Allen is pleased to announce the expansion of its fitness options with the addition of Transformation Boot Camp. This program, along with the shopping center's other wellness-related options, StrollerFit and hike/bike trails, is a unique way to enjoy the outdoors and meet fitness goals in a fun, challenging and rewarding environment. The motivational, non-military style program is designed for men and women of all fitness levels.
Transformation Boot Camp follows a four-week program format divided into five one-hour classes each week. Classes are offered twice a day, Monday through Friday, at 5:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and are held at The Grove, located in the center of The Village at Allen. Enrollment is currently open for the four-week program which will begin Monday, March 15. For every three new campers who enroll together in the month of March, a fourth camper will receive free enrollment. To redeem, participants should enroll online.
Other fitness options available at The Village at Allen include StrollerFit, a 50-minute class allowing moms to exercise with their infants or small children. StrollerFit classes are offered Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. at The Grove pavilion (or inside Dodie's Place Sports Grill during inclement weather). For information, visit www.strollerfit.com/allen.
In addition, the center features four miles of hike/bike trails. Ideal for joggers, cyclists and walkers, these trails connect The Village at Allen with sister property The Village at Fairview.

Join the Allen Public Library at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, as it continues its Fantasy Film Series with the 1987 classic, "The Princess Bride." In the film, a kindly grandfather sits down with his grandson and reads him a bedtime story, one that has been passed down from father to son for generations: When the beautiful Buttercup is kidnapped by a ghastly gang intent on fomenting an international incident, they find they are pursued by the Dread Pirate Roberts - who just might be Westley, Buttercup's one true love. Also after everyone is vile Prince Humperdinck, to whom Buttercup is now betrothed but who seems to care little for her continued survival.

'Cruse'-ing through Texas history
In celebration of Texas History Month, acclaimed Texas historian J. Brett Cruse will discuss the Red River War of the late 19th century and his current research at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at the Allen Public Library Civic Auditorium.
Cruse is the author of "Battles of the Red River War: Archeological Perspectives on the Indian Campaign of 1874."
In 1874 and 1875, Comanche, Kiowa, Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes clashed with the U.S. Army in a series of battles known as the Red River War. These battles are a pivotal chapter in Texas history. In 1998, J. Brett Cruse began the arduous task of conducting archeological investigations at six battle sites along the Red River. As a result of their excavations, Cruse and his teams found clues that corrected and completed the written records that assist our understanding of the Native American perspectives on this clash of cultures.
Currently serving as sites supervisor with the Historic Sites Division of the Texas Historical Commission, Cruse has also been published in the Military History of the West, Current Archeology in Texas, and Bulletin of the Texas Archeological Society.
The Allen Public Library is located at 300 N. Allen Drive. For information, call 214-509-4911.
