Quilted 'Last Supper'
(SLIDESHOW)
Photos by Penny Rathbun
An image of Da vinci's painting “The Last Supper” quilted in one-half inch quilt pieces was on display for Fidelis Inter Se members and guests at the group's meeting last week.
Marilyn Locke has long taught people how to quilt. She was teaching classes when Locke got interested in quilting. It took him two and one-half years to piece together the quilt top. The quilt is 67 inches high and 183 inches wide. There are 51,816 pieces of facbric in the quilt. More than 350 different fabrics were used. Locke hand-dyed many of them to get the correct color. He made the quilt while he was working full time as a dentist. He estimates that about 1200 hours of work are in the finished quilt.
