The Colony vs. Yates – Live updates
By BLAINE CRIMMINS and MATT WELCH
It’s over. Yates wins, 106-76, and will face Lancaster in the Class 4A State Final on Saturday in Austin.
The Colony opened the second half with a 10-6 run to cut the lead to 57-46 but Yates answered back with a 9-2 run of their own in the final 90 seconds of the third quarter to extend their advantage.
After three quarters, A.J. Price led the Cougars with 20 points. Austin Chatman has 15. The game was as close as seven points with 3:27 left in the second quarter but Yates made a late run to take a 51-36 lead at halftime.
The game began about an hour behind schedule because Lancaster and Lake Travis went to overtime. The game was further delayed midway through the second as Yates' Darius Gardner and The Colony's Kendall Jones and Price went down with injuries.
Yates led after the first quarter, 25-18. A three-pointer by Price helped cut the lead but nine first-quarter turnovers set The Colony back in what was otherwise an opportunistic night.
