Senior Night lives up to its name

Intra-city games are frequently emotional and Tuesday’s girls soccer match between Plano Senior and Plano West was no different.
Only the emotion flowing at Clark East was more about the players involved than the rivalry itself.
“It was Senior Night,” said Jennifer Grubb, West head coach, “so that’s always kind of an emotional night and all our seniors got to start. It was the last district game and I was just really proud of all the seniors.”
But while the end result was positive, it didn’t quite start out that way.
“Plano really put us on our heels to start,” Grubb said. “We were a little shaky early, but got settled down and into our rhythm.”
That rhythm was largely aided by Casie Ramsier. The freshman spitfire scored both of West’s goals, which came with approximately 10 minutes remaining in the respective halves.
“Casie did really well tonight,” Grubb said. “But she always works for whatever she gets and I think one of the reasons that is so noticeable is because she does it up top.”
Ramsier’s first goal came off a first half corner by senior Meredith Molge. Plano was unable to clear the ball out of the box and Ramsier made the Lady Wildcats pay. Ramsier’s second goal came off an assist by junior Whitney Jaynes.
Plano was unable to respond, suffering a 2-0 defeat.
But the Lady Wildcats had already clinched the No. 4 playoff spot from District 8-5A and will return to the postseason at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with a bi-district match against Irving MacArthur at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton.
West will be in action that night as well as the Lady Wolves face Duncanville. West tied for the district title with McKinney Boyd, but lost the third tiebreaker and settled for the No. 2 seed. That will prevent a second round tilt against Coppell, the defending Class 5A State Champions.
East wins first district match
Tuesday was Plano East’s Senior Night as well, so it was apropos the Lady Panthers got a goal from senior Morgan Villani in the team’s first district win of the season.
Villani scored the lone goal of the night on an assist from sophomore sister Brooke Villani with 14 minutes remaining.
“That’s huge as a senior,” said Dawn Crow, East head coach, “That was a great fairy tail; Morgan has an incredible work ethic and was a difference maker in this match.”
The elder Villani’s goal gave East a 1-0 win over Wylie and pushed the Lady Panthers past the Lady Pirates and into fifth place.
