Rebecca Proctor, MacKenzie-Childs

Full name: Rebecca Proctor

Nicknames: Becca Beans, Becca (I went by Becca as a child)

Job title: Creative Director for MacKenzie-Childs

How long have you been doing that? I have been the Creative Director for MacKenzie-Childs for six years but have been with the company for 19 years. I have worked in design, I was the personal assistant to the founders, worked in sales, and lead product development all over the world.

Favorite part of the job: Traveling. I love traveling. For me, it’s the greatest source of inspiration and creativity. I love to see how others dine – it inspires me to create.

What brings you to Plano? A personal appearance at Neiman Marcus Willow Bend. I will be in the store on Thursday, May 6 during the Star Children’s Charity “Stiletto Strut” from 6 to 9 p.m. I am looking forward to wearing some cool stilettos and helping raise money for the children of Collin County. I will be in Gift Galleries at 2 p.m. signing products purchased as well.

Favorite State? Why? New York. New York has everything – four seasons – oceans, lakes, mountains, snow, apple orchards. You have everything you need.

States lived in: New York, Maryland, Connecticut, Georgia

Place born: Baltimore, Maryland

Favorite part of your day: Morning. Unquestionably. Really early mornings – when no one else is awake. It’s a very productive time for me.

What time do you wake up in the morning? 4:45 a.m.

What time do you go to sleep? It depends. Never after 11 p.m.

Name five things that are in your purse: a tea bag, picture of my son, my Blackberry, a measuring tape, a pilot P700 pen

Birthday: April 28

Your philosophy on age: I will be forever 19. I never grew beyond 19. I do not believe in age, I do not really have a philosophy on age.

Are you a youngest, middle or oldest child: Youngest

Favorite home-cooked meal: Macaroni and cheese

Favorite dessert: Grapefuirt sorbet

Favorite band when you were 20: The Talking Heads. And funny thing, years later, my husband ended up playing with many of the band members including my idol from The Talking Heads, Tina Weymoutyh, who ended up becoming someone I go to know very well.

Favorite band now: I have to say my husband’s music. He is an amazing musician and songwriter. Music is a great part of my life – I have two grand pianos in my home and my father was a Big Band leader.

Do you own an iPod? My son gave me on for my birthday this week! And I love it – it’s bright orange.

Something almost nobody knows about me: There is really nothing people do not know about me. But, maybe that music is such a major part of my life.

Something I’m known for: Talking fast.

What inspires your designs? Everything everywhere. I find inspiration in the most unusual places. Even when I am just taking a simple walk with my son. Traveling inspires me.

How did you get involved with MacKenzie-Childs? I actually responded to an ad for a job with MacKenzie-Childs and learned about this great company from an article in House and Garden magazine. When I saw the merchandise, I immediately fell in love with the product. To arrive at MacKenzie-Childs corporate headquarters is an experience in itself. The offices are located at an old dairy farm complete with barn and a red brick driveway that is super long. Complete with chickens! It’s so country, so fresh!

What is your favorite piece from the MacKenzie Childs Spring 2010 collection? All things from the “Flower Market” collection – enamelware in floral prints. My inspiration for this collection came from beautiful floral details from England (ceramic collections). I found some special ones and changed them to make them more over the top and outrageous. Everything is the collection is cheerful and bold. Its very traditional and modern at the same time, so it works in anyone’s home. Everyone love it!

MacKenzie-Childs is known for color and mixed patterns. Why?

Because we love layering patterns and textures. It’s who we are. It keeps things interesting. Our black and white checked pattern is our startched underpinnings – it’s the core of our collection. It’s happy, playful and open to possibilities. Mix everything with something new of something vintage. MacKenzie-Childs collectors all interpret our collection differently and this is why everyone love it!

V the entire MacKenzie-Childs collection at Neiman Marcus Willow Bend in Plano in Gift Galleries on Level Three. On Thursday, May 6 at 2 p.m. you can meet the Creative Director for MacKenzie-Childs, Rebecca Proctor during a reception and presentation. Rebecca will sign any MacKenzie-Childs pieces purchased during the event. For information, call 972-629-1700.

To attend the Star Children’s Charity “Stiletto Strut”, tickets can be purchased by calling Marlene Kamholz at Star Childrens Charity at 972-943-3344. The event is from 6 to 9 p.m. and will be filled with food, drinks, fashion and fun. Throughout the mall and Neiman Marcus, guests will “strut” and receive fabulous gifts and favors. Don’t miss the first annual Stiletto Stut. Come walk for the kids of Collin County.
