Frisco going places—literally
By Jan Bellamy, jbellamy@acnpapers.com
Frisco’s future lies beyond the city limits. You might say Frisco knows no limits when it comes to focusing all resources on bringing business home.
Those resources include the talents of students, dedicated business developers, and travel and tourism professionals.
Among them, young graphic artist Wes Dunham was honored at the May 4 city council meeting for his winning Sister City logo design. The Liberty High School sophomore is one of seven student finalists utilizing the resources of the FISD’s Career and Technical Education Center.
The Sister City committee started at the behest of Mayor Maher Maso last year. Organizers said they have narrowed the search to two cities, are in the process of obtaining nonprofit status and will make a formal announcement soon.
And Frisco’s Economic Development Corporation showed off their new business development plan for city council’s approval Tuesday night.
“This means we are moving beyond Frisco and beyond the State of Texas,” FEDC director James Gandy told the council.
Gandy said the new plan reflects about a year of review and development, with the help of a consultant.
Also moving rapidly forward is Frisco’s Convention and Visitors Bureau. To capitalize on the “ShopTexas” program, CVB has placed billboards between Frisco and Oklahoma City. They are also launching a new marketing effort using photos from the winner of their “You Be the Tour Guide” photography contest Saturday.
Frisco’s Convention and Visitors Bureau is kicking off National Travel & Tourism Week and announcing the winners of the first “You Be the Tour Guide” Photo Contest at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stonebriar Centre on the lower level right outside of Sears.
“The public is invited to share the fun and see the talent of photographers who went out to catch the best of Frisco as a travel destination,” said CVB public relations manager Denise Stokes.
