Two Plano residents were found dead early Sunday on a Colorado mountain after their hike apparently went awry.

Captain Bob Pruiksma, a member of Custer County Search and Rescue, said Duane and Linda Buhrmester, both 57, were hiking Tuesday morning when something went wrong and they fell from the mountain they were climbing.

He said the two were found in a mudslide area, and weather could have been a contributing factor to their deaths.

“It’s the monsoon season, and sometimes as early as noon – and sometimes before – we can go from clear weather to storms in less than an hour,” Pruiksma said.

They were found in the Ellingwood Arete, a climb that takes hikers up to the Crestone Needle, which has a height of just under 14,200 feet.

The two set out on their hike Tuesday morning, Pruiksma said, and based on family member accounts and remaining supplies, the two probably died before noon.

The search began Saturday evening when one of the couple’s sons called the Custer County Sheriff’s office to report the two missing after they failed to board a Friday flight.

" This is quite shocking to say the least, Duane and Linda were 2 popular students at Camas High School ( Camas Washington). Duane graduating in 1971 and Linda Fisher graduating in 1972. Both were quite active in numerous school activities and organizations.
If anyone has any "good memories" of Duane and Linda please email metrodesk@columbian.com...attention John Branton...It would be nice for a story to the local folks. "
