McKinney libraries offer free language courses
McKinney Courier-Gazette
The McKinney Public Library System now offers the Mango Languages online language-learning system. Mango is free for all library patrons, and can be accessed over the Internet from home or office, as well as at both library branches: Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library, 101 E. Hunt Street, and John and Judy Gay Library, 6861 W. Eldorado Parkway.
Each Mango lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. Users learn actual conversation, breaking down complex conversational elements within an audiovisual framework. Mango is available in two versions:
• Mango Basic, which teaches everyday greetings, goodbyes and helpful phrases and is designed to appeal to a beginner in a new language. The courses, which require only two to five hours to complete, are available in 22 foreign languages and 15 English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.
To access Mango Languages from outside the library:
1) Go to www.mckinneypubliclibrary.org.
2) Click on the "Databases" link.
3) Click on Mango Languages.
You'll be prompted to enter your McKinney Public Library card number. To get information about obtaining a library card, visit the library's "Services" page or call the library at 972-547-READ.
