Collin College partners with manufacturing consortium for an $808,066 job-training grant

AUSTIN – A consortium of manufacturing and construction companies has partnered with Collin College to provide job training using an $808,066 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
The grant will be used to custom-train 455 new and incumbent workers to program and maintain equipment and will provide high-end manufacturing training to assist the consortium in improving manufacturing processes. Trainees will include assemblers, technicians and brake press operators. Upon completion of training, the workers will earn an average hourly wage of $20.97.
Business partners in the grant are Fiber Systems International, Applied Concepts Inc., Carlisle Coatings and Waterproofing Inc., Manner Plastics LP, Rapid Tooling Inc., Special Products & Manufacturing Inc. and Statlab Medical Products Inc.
Alcantar presented a check to Collin College Board Chair Brenda Willard Goodell and representatives of the partnering businesses at a ceremony held at the Collin College Higher Education Conference Board Room, 3452 Spur 399 in McKinney.
