Bob Loblaw Law Blog
BY Kevin Hageland Staff Writer
If it’s not about the UIL or swine flu, I am having trouble wrangling up some hatred these days, so this blog will be more friendly than usual … or at least I am starting it with that intention, who knows what will actually happen.
I love it when a plan comes together.
That was the case Friday night as I was able to cover the Plano East softball and baseball games at the same time. The only deterrent I almost had to this plan was Lady Panthers softball coach Karen Kalhoefer, who gives the longest post-game speeches in the world … and this was after a playoff game they had won.
Luckily, at the softball game were the East triumvirate of girls basketball head coach LaGwenna Mingilton, volleyball head coach Marcy Crabtree and girls soccer head coach Dawn Crow. I told Crow I needed her to stall Kalhoefer and a couple players after the post-game talk, so I could go down the giant hill and talk with the baseball team and make it back in time.
I made the trek up and down the hill, got the interviews I needed and returned to the softball field right as Kalhoefer was finishing up. It was difficult to give Kalhoefer too hard of a time though because she had the traditional gold playoff glitter in her hair and you just can’t get mad at someone when they are rocking glitter in their hair … at least I can’t.
The point, however, is that there were three other East coaches there to help me if I needed it and that’s something you see a lot of in Collin County.
I was out at the Plano West softball playoff game Tuesday, and in addition to talking to my buddy Paige Burke (former Lady Wolves catcher and budding Central Arkansas superstar), I saw West volleyball head coach Brittany Bridge and head football coach and cluster athletic coordinator Mike Hughes in attendance. Keep in mind, there could have been more, but those were the only ones I saw.
Sure it’s the playoffs, so it makes sense that more people would be at these games, but I see these same coaches (as well as ones from Plano Senior and Allen) at games all the time and it’s good to see that kind of school spirit.
Summer movie update
I’ve seen a few movies this summer and since I don’t have my own movie blog, you know who I’m talking about, I figured I could quick hit a few of them. Wolverine=mediocrity, Star Trek=very good and Fast and Furious=me hating myself for wanting to watch this … which I did!
