Leadership Plano is a community leadership development program founded by the Plano Chamber of Commerce, but membership with the chamber is not required to be part of the leadership class.
Leslie Baker is one of the 35 members of this year’s group who are loyal to Plano and impact the community.
She lives in Dallas but has worked in Plano for more than 16 years.
She has been married for 18 years to her husband, Robert, and has two children – Catherine, 13 and Robert, 11.
Baker is the director of marketing for Texas Health Center for Diagnostics and Surgery, a surgical hospital located next to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Plano.
“I love my job, and the people I work with are some of the most compassionate folks I’ve ever come across,” Baker said. “I have been in the health care arena for more than 16 years.”
Baker’s role as director of marketing is to help to connect patients and physicians with the hospital.
“My job is to help build brand awareness and strengthen customer loyalty,” Baker said. “Leadership Plano offers a unique opportunity for me to understand the needs of the community and the challenges it faces, especially within the health care arena.”
She believes Texas Health is great about giving back to the community – whether it’s through food drives or raising funds for various charities.
“By better understanding [community needs], we all can find a way to make a difference,” Baker said. “For example, access to quality health care for people who have limited ability to pay is important. I feel passionate about helping organizations like the Plano Children’s Medical Clinic. The clinic does an outstanding job of delivering quality care to children whose parents cannot afford traditional health care services.”
Baker said she has several goals for herself, but the top three are to get more involved with organizations within the Plano community, meet new people who she can help and run half of a marathon.
“I believe it’s important to give back to the community and help those who are less fortunate,” Baker said. “Even though I have a full-time job and family, I try to find time to volunteer for organizations. Most of my friends will tell you that I am a great networker. I get joy out of helping good people connect with other good people.”
Baker is excited to have the opportunity to participate in a marathon in Phoenix in January.
“Having an exercise goal is very helpful for getting and staying in shape,” Baker said.
She loves meeting new people and learning about the Plano community.
Buzz Kolbe, leadership development coach and executive director for Leadership Plano, believes Baker is a great advocate and participant in many of the Plano Chamber of Commerce programs, including the Women’s Division and as a Chairman’s Council member.
“We are grateful for her involvement this year as a member of Leadership Plano Class 28,” Kolbe said. “Leslie brings a proven track record of success with her marketing, community relations and non- profit experience.”
