Golf: Season gets underway

The Coppell girls varsity golf team got its season underway Sept. 24-25 competing in a two-day tournament in Lubbock.
The tournament opened with a round at Rawls Golf Course, where the Cowgirls were led by Aja Zarrehparvar, who carded a 79. Following was Tiffany Breitenwischer (85) while Lauren Murphy, Taylor Icenberger and Janna Jiao also competed for Coppell.
Breitenwisher paced the squad on Day 2 action at Lubbock ISD’s Shadow Hills Course after posting a round of 75. Zarrehparvar followed with a 78, while Jiao fired 83 and Murphy shot an 86.
Hunter Robinson paced the squad with consecutive rounds of 69 and 74 to tie for third. Coppell’s Landon Moody (76-75) and Kevin Dunham (75-79) each placed in the top 20 to earn honorable mention, while Jacob Hunter and Troy Hanson competed for the Cowboys.
The team also competed Sept. 17-18 at the Bart Granger Tournament at Pecan Valley Golf Course. Robinson led Coppell, finishing 34th of 260 golfers, and was joined on the varsity squad by Daniel Dickens, Wesley Vohs, Alex Garcia and Grant Brown.
In junior varsity action, Coppell’s boys team took fourth Sept. 22 at Oak Hollow Golf Course in McKinney and were led by top 15 performances from Ryan Spence (77) and Payne Spudic (79).
