BeTween Scene, a store made specifically for boys and girls ages 7 to 12, is not just a location to buy the latest fashions. Instead, the customers are immersed in the styling process as models for the store and as fashion board members.
Originally opened in Baton Rouge, La. in 2005, BeTween Scene expanded into Dallas two years ago, and another location quietly opened in Frisco last week at 6959 Lebanon Road, Suite 101.
In continuing the tradition of using local shoppers as models, BeTween Scene in Frisco is holding a photo shoot from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 11. Screens around the colorful walls will display the pictures, showing real customers in the clothing and accessories found at the store.
Kubera really listens to the advice of her customers, albeit in the “tween” stage, by rotating girls in a fashion board. The girls from local schools, who know what they like to wear, assist in picking out clothing lines from photographs.
“They help us keep up with what’s hot and what’s not,” Kubera said.
Some of those “in” brands include Butter, Splendid and Ella Moss. Girls gravitate to the super soft texture of Butter hoodies as well as the soft, cozy pajama pants and pajama shorts found at BeTween Scene.
“It’s probably the hottest item in the store right now,” Kubera said.
Parents can avoid hearing groans about shopping from the boys with video games set up to entertain them. Kubera said she sees skater-oriented brands such as Element and Volcom becoming popular for their age group, and they even sell skateboards in the store. Typically, the “dudes” side of the story has the easier customers.
“Give them a hat, give them a beanie, and they’re happy,” Kubera said.
And while BeTween Scene aims to follow the latest trends, parents do not have to fret about their young children dressing in styles way beyond their years. Although the young girls want to mimic what they see teenagers wearing, Kubera said they keep the outfits age appropriate.
Look for a grand opening of the Frisco location after the holidays have died down. In January, a Mardi Gras themed party will pay homage to the store’s original Louisiana roots. They are also working on setting up purchases from the store’s website, www.betweenscene.com.
“I love the store and what we do,” Kubera said. “This is such a fun age to sell to. Everyone tells us there’s nothing like BeTween Scene.”
