The face of Frisco Square will change in the next year-and-a-half as a medical center will be constructed northwest of city hall.

Forest Park Medical Center-Frisco officially broke ground Saturday, and construction will begin in mid February. The full service acute care hospital will focus on surgery and will cover 136,000 square feet with 50 patient beds, 12 operating rooms and two procedure rooms. In addition to the main facility, the site will include a 55,000-square-foot medical office building and parking garage.

In addition to providing surgical care near the center of Frisco, the hospital’s managing partner, Alan Beauchamp, said the facility will be an economic benefit to the city.

“The construction of the facility will bring several hundred new jobs, and once it is open for business, several hundred more jobs will be created,” Beauchamp said. “Since we are a for-profit facility, we will bring in tax dollars to the city. We also believe we are building a hospital that will be aesthetically beautiful, which will add to the look of the square.”

Beauchamp said the patient rooms will have adjoining space so that family members can stay at the facility while not interrupting medical care. He said the facility will perform all surgeries with the exception of heart surgery and delivering babies. Area residents concerned with noise created by ambulances heading to the hospital’s emergency room should not be worried, according to Beauchamp.

“In Texas, you can be licensed as an ambulatory surgical center or a full-service acute care hospital. Since we are an acute care hospital, we are required by law to have an emergency room, but that will not be the focus of the facility,” he said. “We are going to have a Level 4 emergency room (Level 1 is the highest) and shouldn’t have any ambulances coming into the facility. If we do get patients with gunshot wounds or other trauma, we will stabilize them and then transfer them to another facility.”

Vibrant Healthcare, who will operate the facility, opened a similar hospital, Forest Park Medical Center on Central Expressway in Dallas, in 2009. Beauchamp said the facility has been a success and is already being expanded. He said there is a need for a facility like Forest Park and that Vibrant is excited about expanding into Frisco because of the area’s growth.

Forest Park Medical Center-Frisco will be physician-owned and will be located at the southeast corner of Main Street and the Dallas North Tollway, across from Cinemark Frisco Square.
