Possible child porn found at Anna High School

Collin County Sheriff's investigators are trying to determine the age and identity of a female in some sexually explicit photographs on a student's iPad in Anna.
Sheriff's dispatchers received a call regarding the discovery of the lurid photos at 2:06 p.m. Monday at Anna High School located on North Powell Parkway, according to Collin County dispatch reports.
Lt. John Norton of the Collin County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) said the school's resource officer (SRO) discovered the explicit images on the student's iPad and contacted dispatchers.
"The student wasn't detained," Norton said. "We just talked to him."
Investigators are now trying to identify the female in the photographs and her age to determine if charges need to be filed in connection with the incident, Norton said.
So far, no arrests or charges have been made in connection with the report. Norton said investigators have only filed an "initial report" on the matter as of Thursday.
Anna ISD Assistant Superintendent Thomas O'Neal said school officials are working with the CCSO and their investigators to resolve the matter.
"Once we are aware of that type of situation, we notifiy our SRO or the authorities and contact the parents as well," O'Neal said. "Then depending on where the investigation leads and how the charges come out, we'll take appropriate action based on our student code of conduct. We'll certain follow all of those policies."
Due to the age to the student and the fact that the investigation is still ongoing, O'Neal said he could not confirm or divulge specific information as it relates to the initial report.
Electronic devices such as or similar to iPads are starting to be implemented in the classrooms and concerns about how they are used in schools and allowed on campus will be examined in the coming year by the district, O'Neal said.
"I think we're to the point where we realize that students are going to have them," he said. "For the most part, students are using them for texting and music."
O'Neal said teachers are allowed to confiscate items such as electronic tablets, MP3 players or cell phones on sight if they are carrying them on school grounds. Anna ISD's Secondary Student Code of Conduct states that they can only bring them on campus if "prior permission has been obtained from the principal. Without such permission, teachers will collect the items and turn them in to the principal's office."
"We don't do a search each day," O'Neal said, "but if they are seen or heard, they are going to be collected."
O'Neal said he could not say if this most recent incident would shape the district's regulations during its next review.
"We review the handbook every year and try to get legal updates every year and revisit it at the end of the school year," he said. "I don't know if this particular incident will make us make those changes at this point in time."
