Will named publisher of Star Courier
By Rick Mann, rmann@acnpapers.com
Roger A. Will has been named vice president/group publisher for American Community Newspapers’ Dallas group, which includes the Plano Star Courier.
“I am exceptionally pleased to announce that Roger A. Will has accepted this position for American Community Newspapers’ Dallas group,” said Dick Franks, chief executive officer of ACN. “Since January, Roger has been acting as interim publisher in Dallas, having previously served as interim publisher for ACN in Minneapolis twice before.
“While I’m grateful to Roger for taking on the challenge in Dallas, and for having really hit the ground running during the last few months, I want to note that this represents a well-deserved promotion – as Roger has done an exceptional job of building and strengthening the company’s Internet presence and offerings during the last several years as ACN’s vice president/digital media.”
“I know he has exciting plans to continue to integrate our print and online delivery of local news and advertising in Dallas-Fort Worth in the months ahead,” Franks said.
Before joining ACN, Will worked in digital media management for Knight Ridder in Kansas City, Mo., and as publisher and general manager for community newspapers in Pennsylvania and Iowa.
Franks said this promotion taps Will’s experience in three key areas.
“First, his knowledge of e-media platforms for community publishing is second to none. Second, his years of experience in community news publishing are beneficial to our readers and advertisers. And, finally, as a resident of the area, he knows the market and has a strong, personal investment in spearheading the growth of ACN’s Texas properties.”
Will and his wife, Carol, who serves as ACN’s vice president/human resources, have lived in Frisco for the past five years.
“Roger brings an outstanding breadth of experience, high energy, contagious enthusiasm and real commitment to the challenge of growing our business and strengthening our community connections in Texas,” Franks said.
“As we discussed opportunities associated with growing our business in Texas, Roger pointed to the redesign and enhanced distribution of the Plano Star Courier and Insider as ‘just the first step’ in plans to position ACN’s community products as leaders in local news and advertising in print and on the Web.
“He assures me he will move ahead quickly, and he will do so with my full support. Within the next few months, both readers and advertisers will begin to see substantial enhancements to all our North Dallas-area papers.”
