Damaged power lines cause Celina grass fire
By Penny Rathbun, prathbun @acnpapers.com
Sparks from damaged power lines caused a grass fire on Saturday on the southeast corner of Farm-to-Market Road 455 and State Highway 289.
Celina firefighters had the fire out within short minutes of a passerby calling them, but traffic was blocked for an hour or more while emergency personnel dealt with the aftermath. Power lines were lying across the road and dangling from at least three poles.
Oncor does not yet know why the wires came down. According to Oncor area manager Gerald Perrin, the wires likely came down from something getting tangled in the wires from the outside and causing the transformer to malfunction, but no one knows for sure.
