'The Delany Sisters' to perform at the GLCT
The Greater Lewisville Community Theatre presents "Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years," running April 15-May 1. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
GLCT is located at 160 W Main St. in Old Town Lewisville. The entrance is in the rear, on Elm Street. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and children.

LLELA offers preschoolers nature sessions
Preschoolers will discover wonders of nature at Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area's Preschool Adventurers Program. The final session will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, April 15. Children ages 3-5 years, accompanied by an adult are welcome. Adventurers should wear long pants and close-toed shoes. Friday's session will explore all that makes trees special.

The Castle Hills Village Shops Plaza schedule of events for April includes:
There will be a game truck and street party from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 15.
T. Laster of Choice Training will host a free kickboxing class from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16.
Castle Hills will host bunny photos and movie night from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22. The selected movie is "Ramona & Beezus."
T. Laster of Choice Training will host a free ab-solute class from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23.
Castle Hills will host live music in the plaza featuring the Vic Duncan Duo from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 29.
T. Laster of Choice Training will host a free punch out cardio class from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30.
The 6th annual Dragon Dash sponsored by the Women's Club of Castle Hills will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30. The dash will benefit the Foundation for Prader-Willi research. It will feature a 5K and one mile race where participants can walk, run or bike to the finish line. The cost is $30 for adults and $20 for children.

KLB schedules annual spring clean up
Keep Lewisville Beautiful will be celebrating its 25th annual citywide cleanup Saturday, April 16. The free event will be held in conjunction with the Keep Texas Beautiful Trash Off and the Keep American Beautiful Great America Clean Up activities. Volunteers are needed for clean up teams and on site help. Sign in and registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Residential Convenience Center parking lot, 330 Jones St. Clean Up is from 9 a.m. to noon. Lunch is provided along with door prizes and goody bags. All ages are welcome and appreciated.
Sponsors and raffle prizes are still being accepted. Businesses can make monetary donations or become sponsors by providing raffle prizes or items for goodie bags given out to all participants. Funny Bunny Festival offers new features
Lewisville Parks and Leisure Services is inviting the community to the 24th annual funny bunny festival Saturday, April 16, at Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park, 1310 Railroad St.
The event will feature an egg hunt for all ages (groups age 0-3, 4-5, 6-7 and 8-plus) at 11 a.m., carnival games, face painting, bounce houses, souvenir photos (small fee) and more.
Admission is $1 per person (cash only), with children age 3 and under free. The Lewisville Noon Rotary Club will serve a pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 11 a.m. for an additional fee of $3 for ages 12 and up, children $2 and age 3 and under free. There also will be a Spring Petting Zoo by Ponies & Pals, $3 admission and $2 additional for an animal feed cup.
Avoid long entrance lines by pre-purchasing admission tickets at either recreation center, which will grant entrance to the event through the Express Entrance Lane.

Panda Cup soccer tournament set
Panda Cup, an international soccer showcase, will be held April 16-23 at Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park. The showcase, produced by Zen Sports, is an international soccer event started in 2006 that features professional, collegiate and competitive female soccer teams plus youth competition for boys and girls teams ages 5 to 19.

Big Daddy Alright kicks off series
The "Sounds of Lewisville" concert series, a free family favorite since 1991, will find a new home this year in the courtyard of the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles St.
A total of 11 performances are scheduled. Seven shows will be presented in June and July during the summer series, and three more in October during the fall series.
All shows will be Tuesday nights starting at 7 p.m. Summer dates are from June 7 through July 19. Fall dates are Oct. 4, 11 and 18. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, and food and coolers are permitted.

Library to celebrate Shakespeare appreciation month
The Lewisville Public Library will celebrate the life and works of William Shakespeare throughout the month of April. Enjoy Shakespeare related programs for all ages: view Shakespeare plays that have been made into films, listen to Shakespeare himself discuss his life the Elizabethan world, and get the inside scoop about research techniques for literary works and authors, such as William Shakespeare.
Cool Tools at Your Library: Get to know Shakespeare and other literary greats with Gale Literature Resource Center - Tuesday, April 19, 7 to 7:30 p.m. Register at the reference desk, space is limited. This program is for adults 18 years and older.
Documentary Screening: The movie screening of 10 Things I Hate About You will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, in the Bennett Program Room.
Last supper play scheduled at church
Members of Lamb of God Lutheran Church, 1401 Cross Timbers Road, will perform a dramatization of the Last Supper, "Is It I, Lord," at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 17.
Meet the Disciples of Christ and witness how the last supper of Jesus Christ may have transpired. Experience the struggles and confusion of the men just like you and me who were concerned about the strength of their commitment to follow Jesus. See Christ's love for all during this moving production.
All ages and faith backgrounds are welcome to this free performance. Fellowship and refreshments will follow in the church atrium. Nursery care will be available on a limited basis.

Tax assistance available at Senior Activity Center
AARP is now offering free tax assistance from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Monday through April 18 at the Lewisville Senior Activity Center, 1950A S. Valley Parkway. Reservations can be made up to one week in advance by calling 972-219-5050.

Teen Role Playing Sessions
The library will hold teen role playing sessions Monday nights. Lose yourself in another world Monday, April 18 playing Warlords of Aros, and Monday, April 25 with Rhül: Conquest of the New World. All Role Playing Sessions are from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in Teen Point. Teens age 12-18 are welcome.
Middle School Book Club
Check out our newest book club just for middle schoolers at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28. Join the teen librarian for a lively discussion of this month's book. The group meets the fourth Thursday of the month at Lewisville Public Library's Teen Point (second floor of the library).
KLB offers community garden tour, class
Keep Lewisville Beautiful will hold a free tour and class at the Old Town Community Garden located behind the Christian Community Action campus, 200 S. Mill St. from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21. Dana Bays, plot holder and experienced gardener, will give a tour of the gardens and answer questions about having a garden plot at CCA.

Library hosts kids' activities
The Lewisville Public Library, 1197 W. Main St. will offer classes and activities during April for children.
The library will host family friendly game night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21. Sign up to play Wii against all challengers and play board games in between. Families large and small are invited to come on the fourth Thursday of the month in the Bennett Program Room of the Lewisville Public Library.
Craft-o-Rama is a Craft day series especially for 4th and 5th graders (ages 9 -- 11). The group will meet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27. Space for each class is limited and reserved for 4th -- 5th graders.

MCL Grand announces lineup for concert series
Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater is bringing four Lone Star favorites to the stage this summer during the inaugural Texas Tunes concert series.
Tickets went on sale Monday, April 4. All four shows will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Performance Hall of the MCL Grand, 100 N. Charles St., and will include a brief intermission. Tickets are $15 ($10 for seniors age 65 and older or children age 12 and younger) and can be purchased at MCLGrand.tix.com or at the customer service window at Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church St., during regular business hours. Season tickets are available for $50 ($35 for seniors and children).
Lewisville residents can purchase single-show tickets for $5 each, either in advance at City Hall or on the performance date at the MCL Grand box office. Current driver's license or utility bill will be required to verify residency.
The Texas Tunes series features performers from music halls and festivals throughout the state who present great music in a variety of genres, but all with that unique Texas flair that has made the state a hotbed for fans of live music.
Terri Hendrix kicks off the series on April 22. The Derailers will take the stage on June 24. Kelly Willis and her band are the featured act on Aug. 19. Del Castillo wraps up the Texas Tunes series on Sept. 16.

VRM welcomes the Easter Bunny
The Easter Bunny will be at Vista Ridge Mall daily. Visiting hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and visit and pose for a special spring photo. Each child 12 and under who visits will receive a special gift. Commemorative photos are available, starting at $15.
The Easter Bunny will be at the shopping center through Saturday, April 23 at 8 p.m. when he leaves to deliver eggs to children around the globe.
Vista Ridge Mall is located at I-35E and Round Grove Road.
Senior health fair scheduled
The Lewisville Senior Activity Center will host the 2011 Senior Health Fair Friday, April 29.
The keynote speaker will be Steve Blow, a local columnist. He will present "The Science of Happiness."
The fair will feature free screenings provided by the Medical Center of Lewisville, nearly 70 senior health-related vendors, a caricature artist, door prizes including grand prize gifts and a complimentary lunch for attendees. In keeping with the current trends in senior health and well-being, there will also be holistic health vendors providing free screenings.
The event will kick off with a fun walk around Memorial Park and will wrap up with prize drawings.

CACDC hosts annual breakfast
Texas Rangers Baseball Hall of Famer, Jim Sundberg will be this year's keynote speaker at the Children's Advocacy Center for Denton County's 15th annual community breakfast, "Put a Child on Your Heart," at the Hilton Garden Inn Lewisville Convention Center from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 28.

Softball championship to be held at park
The American Southwest Conference Softball Championship Tournament will be held April 28-30 at the Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park. Winner of the tournament gets an automatic berth in the NCAA Div. III Championship.
The double-elimination tournament was held last year in Lewisville, with Louisiana College winning the title.
VAL hosts new show
The current show of the Visual Art League of Lewisville, "Hands On"-Belly Dancers and an exhibit by Murthy Manta, "East & West" will run through April 30 at the VAL gallery. The shows are open to the public and there is no charge.
Tina Alvarez will exhibit her works at the Lewisville State Bank during the month of April. The bank's lobby hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bank is located at 191 Main St. in Lewisville.
Linda Eden, Dan Lattimore and R'Lene Winters will be exhibiting their work at Tierney's Café & Tavern during the month of April. Tierney's Café & Tavern is located at 208 East Main St.
Acoustic Fridays will continue at the gallery starting at 7 p.m.

Registration begins for collegiate fishing championship on Lewisville Lake
Collegiate anglers throughout the country are able to register online for the 2011 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship. Registration will close on May 1 and the final field will be announced on May 5. Due to the incredible growth in the number of contestants since 2006, the 2011 championship field will be capped at 150 two-person teams.
Lewisville once again will host the event, which will feature a week of activities culminating with the crowning of the 2011 national champions. The event begins May 24.
County Republicans host scholarship contest
The Denton County Republican Party will host its 2011 scholarship contest. The $500 scholarship will be given to an outstanding, conservative young Texan. The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving conservative Republican student meeting the following requirements:
1. Denton County resident;
2. Either an entering fall 2011 freshman or current student at a Texas institution of higher education;
3. Fulltime student taking 12 or more semester hours if in college;
4. If eligible, must be a registered voter, or if not of voting age, must show active GOP involvement.
Scholarship applications and additional information are available online at the Denton GOP website at www.dentongop.org. All applications must be received by May 2 and must be accompanied by a current transcript copy (or admission letter if entering freshman), resume and at least one letter of recommendation from a known Republican.
Scholarship Award recipients will be announced at the July 21 Denton County Republican executive committee meeting.
Camp Summit schedules annual benefit golf tournament
Camp Summit recently announced plans to host its 17th annual benefit golf tournament. The event will be held at 1:30 Monday, May 2 at Bear Creek Golf Club. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $250 for an individual and $1000 for a team of four. The 2011 honorary chairman is Christi Livingston, who has been a Camp Summit camper for 30 years. Proceeds from the golf tournament will fund camping and unique programs for children and adults with disabilities.
The tournament will include a silent auction, contests holes, a boxed lunch donated by Chick-fil-A and an awards buffet dinner. Each player will receive three mulligans, entry into all contests including, hole-in-one, closest to the pin, long drive, putting contest and a special gift. In addition to participating as a golfer, there are also numerous levels of sponsorship opportunities available. Sponsors and teams can register online at: www.campsummit.golf.dojiggy.com.
Camp Summit's goal is to have more than 250 golfers and raise $100,000 for this special camp. More than 1500 campers with developmental delays, physical, or sensory impaired disabilities come to Camp Summit each year in search of a traditional camping experience where their disabilities are left behind so they can try new adventures and participate like their non-disabled peers.
The mission of Camp Summit is to provide barrier-free outdoor experiences that promote personal growth and foster independence for children and adults with disabilities. Campers may be physically challenged, developmentally delayed or have multiple disabilities ranging from mild to severe. Camp Summit is a United Way service provider, a member of the American Camp Association and licensed as a Youth Camp in the State of Texas.

Church sponsors crisis counseling program
First Christian Church of Lewisville invites the community to participate in a new program called "Big Hearts," which is designed to help people learn how to help others through periods of crisis. If you have ever found yourself wanting to nurture friends or family members through difficult times in their lives but you just didn't know what to say or how to approach them, Big Hearts will help you learn how to reach out to your loved ones in need.
Big Hearts will meet at 7 p.m. Monday evenings at First Christian Church, 880 W. Fox Avenue in Lewisville, with the first meeting scheduled for Monday. There is no cost to attend the sessions. The program is planned to continue for several weeks and will address a different life crisis area each week.
Topics include:
* Helping others through grief
* Sustaining people through career crises including job loss, financial stress, and/or retirement
* Supporting loved ones through divorce/marital trials
* Facing the challenges of the senior years
* How to visit people in the hospital
* Introduction to conflict management
Big Hearts will be designed and led by senior minister Rev. Dr. Stephen Sanders, a veteran of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Sanders has extensive training in crisis counseling, having served as a U.S. Army chaplain for 24 years. In addition to counseling thousands of soldiers in two war zones, Sanders has nurtured military families and church parishioners across the southern United States for more than 30 years. Most recently, he traveled to Haiti to work with victims of the devastating earthquake of
2010.

Club welcomes newcomers
The Greater Lewisville Newcomers Club welcomes anyone in the area to join its monthly meetings and more than two dozen different activities. The purpose of the club is social interaction, altruistic opportunities and community awareness. General meetings are being held at the Lewisville Church of Christ, 901 College Parkway in Lewisville. The coffee starts at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10 a.m. every third Wednesday of the month except June, July and August.
